You must reclaim your life’s agenda.

You got to reclaim your life’s agenda. Please, if you have not yet given yourself the gift of reading the Motivation Manifesto, this is declaration number one. I always try to teach us declaration number one. The number one declaration of our lives is to reclaim
our life; reclaim our life from other people’s expectations, reclaim our life from all these distractions, reclaim our life when we took the wrong road, we did something we knew we weren’t supposed to do, we did something we don’t care about, we got stuck in an opportunity that isn’t really right for us.

Reclaiming it means changing direction. Reclaiming it means saying, “Sorry, I know that’s
important to you, but it’s not important to me now.” Reclaiming it means not spending 30 minutes browsing stuff that doesn’t add value, or train you for excellence and mastery. People are saying, “Well Brendon, don’t you consume social media?” I go, “Yeah, I consume social media from influencers who are teaching me to be a better man.” That’s 100% of my social media consumption. I have no tags of cats, I have no—that sounded flippant, my wife has tags of cats, sorry honey. I don’t follow race cars and things and sweat. I don’t follow any brands. The only social media I do is consuming social media from people who are giving me ideas on how to live a better life. That’s it. That is how I stay on my A-game because social media can steal you. And now you’re living for other people’s expectations or you’re trying to have this or that.

Listen, I think reclaiming your life’s agenda is about a couple of things and I want to recap them. I just said them too fast.

Number one, it’s reclaiming it from other people’s expectations. Are you doing what you’re doing because somebody else told you to but you don’t love it? Are you doing what you’re doing to serve somebody who isn’t even aware or grateful to your service? Are you working doing a job that you don’t even love and you haven’t told your boss, “I’d rather do this thing than that thing?” Did you start a business because you were passionate about it one time but now you realize that’s not your thing but you’re too embarrassed to quit? Because, “Well Brendon, people know me for that so I have to do that. That’s what I’m known for.”

No one knows you. There are 7 billion people on the planet. Every one of you can make a pivot, right now.

It’s 2020. Why would you not make a pivot on January 1st? This is your time to pivot.

Do you have clients who suck and you’re like, “Oh my god, I’m still working for this client who sucks after five years. This person still sucks and I’m still taking money from them.” Reclaim that.

Stop giving your agenda, your time, your energy, your effort, your life’s thrust to things that you are not passionate about, that don’t align with your purpose, that don’t bring you to life or develop you. Period.

That’s taking your life back; it’s taking the reins back.

You know, sometimes depending on how advanced the audience is, when I teach this Primary Aspiration, I say that there’s one overarching thing about all of this, and it’s this word: Command.

It’s taking back command of our day, of our life. It’s putting you back in control of the reins, and yanking those goes back and saying, “I’m in command. I’m going to take back command of my life. No longer am I going to hand over control to all these wannabes, to all this social media, to this person who’s a jerk. Nope—my life again.” And you know what? If you need to break some toes, do it gently, but move on. For some of you, it’s time to quit something. And reclaiming your life’s agenda means you quit, leave, or move.

For some of you, reclaiming your life’s agenda means starting something on the side to do something you’re more passionate about now.

But I’m here to tell you if you fill out this high performance planner all year long, and I come and look at it and I can’t tell that you love your life, you’re living somebody else’s agenda. Don’t just fill in the blanks, use this to build your life. Your life, no one else’s.

And I think a big part of self-mastery is having the guts to make some decisions right now.

You got to make some real decisions in your career. You got to make some real decisions in your marriage or the relationships that you have. You got to make some real decisions about how you’re going to live your life, where you’re going to live, and how you spend your time and your day.

That’s big stuff; that’s reclaiming your life’s agenda because your life’s agenda is adding to something. Every day’s time management is leading to an event horizon. It’s going to lead to a certain type of character of who you are, a certain quality of relationships, and a certain quality of career.

I’m telling you, yank the reins back! Be ferocious about in 2020. Take command again. I mean, get fired up about it!

If you’ve been just going through the motions, it’s because you’re going through somebody else’s motions.

Got it? If you feel like life is humdrum, it’s because you’re living somebody else’s life and it feels humdrum. You got to steal back the reins and sometimes you got to grab the reins from somebody else, yank them back, and take control of that cart again. It’s time to take command of your life. If you didn’t do it last decade, for God’s sake, do it this decade, please.
